Oxidative stress is a natural process that occurs when the body's cells are exposed to harmful molecules called free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that can damage cells, tissues, and DNA, and are associated with the development of several diseases, including cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease.
The body produces antioxidants to neutralize free radicals and prevent oxidative stress. However, when the production of free radicals exceeds the body's ability to produce antioxidants, oxidative stress occurs.
